Enhancing Skills for Normal Birth Course Details

The Course

The seminar runs from 9.30 am - 4.00 pm.  The seminar fee includes a comprehensive handbook, including all slides, references and notes, refreshments and certificate of attendance. Please bring your own lunch or be prepared to buy lunch nearby. Group numbers will be limited to 25 participants

Aims

To explore your personal philosophy of birth
To reflect on your practice in the light of up-to-date evidence on normal labour and birth
To  enhance/adapt your current skills in the promotion of physiological birth
To explore with other  midwives case scenarios illustrating challenging dimensions of normal labour and birth
To review your Unit’s guidelines and practices around normal birth to see if they are evidenced-based
To apply skills to normalise as far as possible high tech labours and births

                                            - observation tips for sussing out rhythms

                                - belly mapping

                                - tips for prolonged labour & posterior position

                                - clinical scenarios (group work)

                                            - latent 2nd stage & early bearing down

                                            - interpreting the signs of second stage onset
